Tuesday 1st April was a massive day for all of us here at the newly independent DFB. It marked our very FIRST author signing, with Jon Walter and proofs of his wonderful book ‘Close to The Wind’.

Whether our books are proofs or finished copies, we want them to be desirable objects. So the proofs have got fabulous belly bands that underline how special the stories inside are.

On top of that, we are aiming to have each of our proofs signed by our authors, regardless of where they live in the world (though we might go to them if they live in Hawaii of course!)

So armed with only a pen, a plate of biscuits and a cup of tea, Jon made his way through several hundred books, only pausing to draw occasional breath (and wince with cramp).

PLUS we’ve created an awesome embossing stamp which sits beside our author’s signature. 

We want our early readers to feel spoilt when they get their hands on a DFB proof.

And now? 

We are ready to send our first book proof out into your hands, and we look forward to you reading it, loving it and telling the world what you thought…
